How best to handle this very strange buyer please?

I sold an item on the 02/05 and very quickly was asked for my postal address so buyer could send me a postal order. The item appeared with the icon "payment sent" lit so presumed a smooth transaction was to follow... oh no!!!

After a few days I emailed the buyer to politely state I had not received and she responded by saying she had trouble sending the postal order to she has decided to send Paypal. However she went on to say she could not do this until she had been paid by one of her buyers. I stated I would wait a few more days as she expected payment shortly. Yesterday I received a message saying her buyer was "taking the piXX" as they paid with echeque and therefore she could not pay me until 26/05/09.

I felt like saying at least her buyer had attempted to pay!!! The lady has said it is up to me whether I want to open a dispute as she cannot pay as no funds???

I do not care what problems she has surely you should not bid unless you KNOW you can cover the payment??

Im guessing I should open a non payment dispute but my worry is she may find a way to pay and then leave a neg as revenge for opening dispute??

Advice would be gratefully received

Thankyou

    Hello,

If I were you I would open a payment dispute. At least that way when ebay contacts them they will know you mean business. Plus, to get your fees refunded you need to go down this route. Ebay need to have the case opened a certain number of days before they can close the transaction and sort of the fees (I think its 7)...and it would be a shame to leave it until the buyer said they would pay, find out they havent and have to start the process then.

With regards to the neg feedback, i wouldnt worry too much. As long as you have been courtious in your emails to them they should be grateful that you haven't gone down this route sooner.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hearing of your horror story with this particular buyer, is one of the reasons I haven't plucked up courage to sell on ebay. I've bought many items, don't use paypal but always pay within a day. Can't understand what problems she could have sending a postal order. Sounds very fishy. Good luck and hope you sort it out.

How can you have a problem sending a postal order, the post offices haven't gone on strike.....sounds very fishy

And yes why do people bid when they don't have any money, I often get that, they send an email saying they will pay once they get paid from work, wait till you have money then bid on something, I'm not a credit card am I!! :)

And don't let it put you off selling. The majority of people are decent, just a few undesirables out there.

yeh I also had one who kept me hanging for nearly three weeks, she even gave me a tracking number, said she reported to p/o and they refunded her by chq and once it cleared she would send the money, waited another wk only for her to tell me that it looks like it got lost again!!! went to report her on ebay and found that ebay had decided to close her account! I trusted her as she had over 500 positive feedback! well never got the money and had to relist, alot of time and money wasted!!! But then again, there always one rotten potatoe in the sack!:(

It's not really a horror story, more the irritation of flaky people. If someone doesn't pay within 7 days file as non paying bidder and do not send item. Don't concern yourself with negative feedback. If she have the nerve to do this you can write a response stating facts underneath. Disregard annoying bull e-mails regarding payment.

I expect they do. Makes you wonder if it's worth all the hassle. Thankfully, I've only encountered one problem when buying and thankfully it didn't involve a lot of money.
