Watching blu-ray on tv through laptop - help!

Hi Guys

We're trying (and failing) to watch a blu-ray disc on our TV through our laptop using VGA port. We can watch blu-ray disc on laptop and can get laptop to display on TV, but cant watch the blu-ray disc on the tv using same cable. When we try and play the disc it says (including spelling mistake!) "Incompatible graphics driver. Please make sure your graphics driver meets minimun requirement criteria". The laptop came with a sample blu-ray discthere must be a problem somewhere with our TV.

The TV is a samsung LE32R41BD and laptop is Acer Aspire 6930G. Does anyone know if what I'm trying to do is possible with this combination or how to do it?

Many thanks
Charlotte

Have you tried cloning the displays from the graphics properties? Failing that, check that your graphics drivers are up to date.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.

You can only watch a blu-ray disc on the Tv or the laptop. It will only display on 1 screen at a time.

You should use a Hdmi cable.

due to copy protection you cant view 1080p content over VGA =(

it may allow it if whever DVD program you use will allow you reduce the res to whatever the cut down point is but I thought it should do that automaticly.

Thanks all - looks like we'll try the HDMI cable first and see if that does the trick!

    Cheers

You cannot display blu ray on a tv via vga due to the copy prevention, it is possible to play on laptop and tv at same time if using hdmi clone and dual screen.

Me again - we've got a HDMI cable set up now and put the display just on the TV - once again we can see the desktop & internet etc fine on the TV but as soon as we try and play the blu-ray it brings up an error message (different this time) "Fail to enable HDCP, please switch to analog output (VGA, D-sub) and try again." I've got no idea what this means!

I've been online and tried to search for a new driver for the samsung TV but can't find one.

Should I give up or is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks

it could be that the software you're using on the laptop for playback isn't able to fully decode HDCP (Copy Protection) from the bluray which is stopping it being played on the tv. Try updating it to the latest version and see if that helps. It has some other people (so it seems after a quick google.)
