What are you into Sturll ? Gambling ?

Also what time of the year ?

We love Vegas. But its a looooong way so we tried AC this year, only for one day though !! AC is a tricky place to get to.

Basically we visited NYC, took a casino charter bus to AC from the NYC Port Authority. The charter buses are just that, hired by the AC casinos to bus gamblers into town from NYC. Excellent service.

AC has a ' boardwalk ' .... its basically a prom made of wooden boards, along the sea / beach. The casinos front onto the beach. There are fairground rides / shops and stuff there, its a bit like Blackpool with gambling ;)

AC casinos are similar to Vegas ones, IE some are super casinos. The place is pretty spread out.

From what we could gather, there isnt really anything much to do there except the casinos, certainly not any day trips as such. Having said that its a coastal town so it has the beach obviously and no doubt there will be places to go, just we didnt get to any.

There is a pretty decent sized mega shopping mall, think its over from Caesars if I recall correctly.

I think the town is a tad on the run down side, nothing too extreme.

We enjoyed what little we saw of it and would consider going back again and staying next time, maybe 3 nights.

P.S. want to know what Reno is like ? We have gambled allover the USA :rotfl:

    Cheers mate.

Ill be driving up from Washington DC so its not that far. I was going to head straight for New York but i was thinking of maybe sideswiping it and going to AC for a day or two, either that or Philadelphia.

I do like a flutter and ill be in Vegas 2 weeks prior but ive got my kids so wont be able to gamble. Ive got someone meeting me in the States so im thinking 2 hedonistic sucky sucky $5 style days.
Its just ive been to Laughlin, Reno and Las Vegas and i keep getting told i should try Atlantic city.

Basically is it worth knocking a few days off New York for?

I looked into to going to Altantic city when we did went to Philly\WAS\NYC earlier this year.(March)

I'm not a gambler so was going for a look see. From my research + a friend in NYC its basicially a dump that has seen a LOT better days:eek:
Apparently it's a bit dodgy anyhwere away from the boardwalk (like Vegas 'supose.)

Like Vegas, hotels are cheap during the week and then a mega expensive at weekends. Entertainment is onlyl on Fri\Sat mostly.

I chose not to go there, (the boardwalk in March would be V cold) so my impression may be wrong.

We spent more time in Philly and Washington.

    With the kids ? No.

    Without ? Hell yeah !

I have also been to Reno, Laughlin etc etc.... think of AC as a bit like them, especially Reno. Except less beggars :j

    Better casinos than Reno.

I'd say a day, don't knock time off NY to stop any longer.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Thank you.

Im convinced to go, so where is a decent hotel? And 1 night or two? Seems to be a bit split.

We stayed at the Best Western just outside Atlantic City in Pleasantville. We ended up with a nice mini suite with kitchen which was great for kids, and the indoor pool was lovely and warm. Don't remember the price, but it was very cheap compared to NYC and DC

Sorry, tried to post link but only takes you to the Best Western home page

If you are only going for one day / overnight, surely you must do one of the mega resorts on the boardwalk like Trump Plaza, Caesars or Ballys ?

Trump Taj Mahal is also on the boardwalk, whilst Trump Marina, Borgata and Harrahs are at the marina.

Dont forget to sign up as a new player at Trump....... $50 in free slot play and not a con like the Vegas ones, this one really does give you the $$ and lets you rack up winnings :D

As for 1 or 2 days, I think that may depend on how much gambling you like. I would do 2 personally, especially in summer.

Finally, be prepared for horrible hotel prices !
