Train fare help please
Hi, sorry first and more than likely in the wrong place, please forgive me:o.
However when i visited these boards a few weeks ago it was easy to find what i wanted,i saved it but now it saying no longer available.
We want to travel form Hitchin, Herts to Gt Yarmouth. Dates 25 RD May -29Th May. 4 adults and 4 children.Leaving about 12ish on the way there and on the way back. We have a family rail card. The best i can seem to do it for is £87.60 however using some of the links last time i am sure i got it down to £56 ish.
Also would i be able to buy the tickets at the Station?
Hopefully someone can help us:D
Thank-you Mrs Wanda

always book single tickets.
You can choose to pick up your tickets at the station from one of the machines or have them sent to you.
You will pay full price if you buy at the station, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

No - stations also sell cheap advance tickets. Yes you will pay full price if you buy at the last minute - but you would online as well.
And there is no point buying cheap single tickets if they add up to more than the cost of a return which at least some of the time they do.
I would guess MrsWanda that the cheaper tickets you found last time have sold out - they are prone to do.0 -

That's quite good value when you think about it, given that it's for eight people and it's three hours each way.
The £87 fare is an off-peak return, so it will be the same price whether bought in advance or on the day of travel. I assume you've tried splitting at any/all of the changing points?0 -
Hi, thank you everyone. It is a good deal but for ever the meanie, lol wondered if someone could get it cheaper. I think i done it wrong last time. I tried it singles but cost much more.
You see when it comes to numbers i am no good, numbers move and dance a dance so to speak. Spell checker on here is a bonus but it cannot help with my numbers,lol....
Thank you xxxx0 -
I went and bought the tickets today. Asked the lady if i could get it cheaper than £87.00 and-after 5 mins she said how about £55.20. To say we was pleased was an understatement, lol.
Seems i didn't try the group save option, buti am sure i did then she said it wouldn't be on there, but then the tickets state as advertised,lol.0
