A Freeview question.

I live in Northern Ireland and can receive FTA programs from the Republic of Ireland in analogue, I've been advised that with the proper STB that I will also receive them in digital format.

However to receive them I need my box to be able to decode mpeg4 - the British standard is mpeg 2. I've come across a lidl receiver SL 35 T on offer from Monday and been mainland European I'm wondering if it is capable of decoding mpeg 4 transmissions.

I've looked at the manual but can't seem to find what type of signal it decodes here's the LINK I'd appreciate it if someone could take a look and offer some advice

That manual is really confusing, because the diagrams show it connected to a conventional TV aerial, not a satellite dish! However, the text seems clear that it's a satellite receiver.

So... you question isn't a Freeview question (you can't receive Freeview on a satellite receiver) but a Freesat/Satellite FTA one, and sadly the answer doesn't appear to be in the manual.

Have you tried sending an email to the maker, Comag, at the address given at the end of the manual?

Em! I'm not more confused than ever  I'm assuming that the 't' stands for terrestrial and that the SL 35 is the satellite version?

I've visited the manufacturers site Comag and part of their specifications read as follows:
    Description of the device:
Technology / Type of reception: Digital terrestrial receiver

    Later on it says
Optical satellite finder: Optical signal finder
    Acoustic satellite finder: No

As fwor says the manual is confusing

As I've indicated my main reason for looking at this box was that I want something that will decode an mpeg 4 signal and I can't seem to find out if that will do it. What I might do though is visit my local Lidl store and buy the box if they offer their no quibble return on it - a lot of retailers don't seem to offer returns on freeview type boxes - and if it doesn't do what I want retrun to it and stick with my old Sagem 60 which is not great but at 9 quid who can complain!

    Agreed, it is very confusing,

Most Terrestrial Digital Receivers that Lidl sell are for the Europe wide market, so fingers crossed.
