    Maplins don't build motherboards.
These would simply be bought in and sold on. Those plastic clips are industry standard.

I can accept one broke, but they would break pulling the cable OUT, not inserting a cable, unless you are completely ham fisted.

To say the same clip broke on TWO motherboards....... nah!!

I think the OP needs to stop messing with computers and pay someone who knows what they are doing to to do it for him.

These clips are going to continue to break until the OP changes the way he is using it, otherwise there is no end to the amount of brand new motherboards the OP is going to destroy (should Maplins continue to replace them as many times as required until the OP learns how to remove a cable without destroying the plug??)

These "clips" that you talk of ,the "SATA" clips for the hard of hearing, these of the clip,or locking variety,(those ones need to have their back clip pressed before removing)these are what the Engineers have 100% ,without doubt,no other possible reason ,nada, no ,non confirmed to be the "only" way that these SATA plastic sockets could have become detached from the motherboard,by using them, and not pressing the release clip, just pulling them up with force!.

(I don't know how that can happen when the SATA cables i used don't lock or clip into place?)

They have ,in their complete and expert view, stated there is no possible way that this could be a manufacturing fault,no way that this/these boards could have missed QC,or been in a batch where only a few were passed through QC and these weren't but were defective, nope, this does not enter into a possible cause ,or one of many, state maplin engineers!

And this happens alot,it's something that happened frequently when i was producing electrical harnesses for company's like ERF,VOLVO ,CAT,and i am most definately not ham fisted, you couldn't do a job like that if you were!

Look at those xbox 360 consoles, millions of them were/are defective, wasn't until more and more people came out with their stories of the 3 red rings, microsoft then issued free extended warranties, but they continue to replace the faulty consoles with refurbished ones, even one of the editors on KOTAKU website has had 13 replacements, obviously it's his fault ,he caused it,as microsoft "used" to say to their customers .

Now though, they just have the problems with scratched discs, asking customers to pay for replacing something that their faulty hardware is causing, even nade the watchdog programme.

Faults can and do happen more than once, just pray it never happens to you!

No ,your claim of you touched it,it's worthless now, is bunkem, how do you think others have discovered content like this,it's not that simple to erase or destroy content on a compuer than what you seem to think ,traces will always be there?

So based off of your "experience" then ?

What I was trying to point out is that the offending data will of course be there, but the police would not be able to ~prove~ that any one individual was responsible, because the contents have been changed since the original owner last used it.

Hence the allegedly incriminating data would still be there, but it would be impossible for the police to prosecute anyone for it.

If you look into the early history of computer forensics you will find that the police lost a number of cases because they failed to isolate the storage device, and could then not prove that it was the accused that was responsible and not them. Now they have to use special rigs to examine the content of suspect hard disks, and these do not operate in the same way as a normal PC (they are designed never to write to the drive).

As you have accessed the content of the hard drive, it's obvious that the content cannot possibly be considered unaltered, and so could not be used as evidence.

Was your last sentence a question?

I hope that didn't come across as being nasty or aimed at you,but as other seem to believe, faults just don't happen more than once, and stuff that's been on other peoples hard drives ,has some how been discovered by mind meld,as looking and finding these types of materials makes what has been found totally useless ,null and void. madness complete madness!

Didn't come across that way at all so no damage done - whilst I've not had any problems with motherboards, there have been a few retailer encounters where if it could go wrong, then it did.

I only asked about the photos, which to take them was the correct thing to do, because it could have been viewed as readiness for trouble and there could've been something you weren't telling us but I don't believe that to be the case.

No Maplin employee would be stupid or insane enough to do that, would they? It just seems such an unlikely explanation, when a more likely one is that they have sent you the wrong thing by mistake.

The sticker on the side has codes on it, one of which is an RTX code, which is probably a returns code. The best approach IMHO is to recognise that Maplin have made a mistake, and use that in a subtle way to get what you want. Phone them up, give them the info on the sticker and give them a chance to make amends.

Once you start involving Trading Standards, Maplin will get their act together and start treating the two separate parts of your complaint separately (1. allegedly faulty board and 2. wrong item sent in error), and then I reckon you'll stand much less chance of getting what you want.

Forget the police. One of the basics of computer forensics is that the disk in question must not have been modified. The fact that you've had a poke around with its contents means that numerous timestamps and other data will have been altered, and it will be useless as forensic evidence.

Just thought I'd point out that the 2 numbers alongside code A26HX & A09HU

    are Maplin codes for

    6000 Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Board Bundle + 1GB DDR2 Memory
    Nvidia® Geforce 8600GT 1GB PCI-E Graphics Card

Perhaps it was a customers that had been upgraded and then had them removed for some reason.
