Track day car insurance

Options
Evening all,

I'm planning on buying a car for track days. (none competitive, not racing)

I was wondering if someone could advise me how I go about insuring the car?

The car will not be driven on public roads and I'm not bothered about fire and theft cover, just third party.

Hope someone can help. Thanks.
I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

Cover is arranged by THB Clowes - quite a reputable firm.

-GiyF - Google is your Friend - even a cursory look at "track day car insurance" brings up 1 or 2 useful links in addition to the above.
-have you considered NOT insuring it ? Unless you KNOW you're a comparatively bad risk on a track day [throttle goes both ways etc :) ] , any insurance company fundamentally works by working out what it will cost them & adding 40% [15% admin, 15% profit, 10% just in case...]. Track day insurance is expensive and also tightly constrained [look closely at the small print]. Over time, if you put the money you'd spend on insurance away & self-insure ... you're in a strong position to do this if you're trailering to an event, it's obviously not your main transport.

I agree,i bought a 205 gti and stripped it out,my brother in law bought an MR2,and we both did track days without insurance, basically because the cars were not worth much. I only did 2 because it was so boring, that's why i have passed my test on a bike,so i can eventually do some bike trackdays after building up some experience on the road,i can't wait to try a bike one, they sound awesome.

Speak to a specialist insurer such as Competition Car Insurance (0115 941 5255) if you are looking to insure. There are plenty out there, with varying levels of cover. Some policies can be geared to cover ordinary as well as track day use.

I'm not sure what the situation is if you hit someone else on a track and are uninsured. Does anyone know for sure?
