Where with Virgin media, the account is in my OH's name and yesterday we got a leaflet addressed to him offering to increase to 20Mb broadband for an extra £4 a mth, then with a printed signature of the customer service person.
OH rang up and was told we couldn't have the increase for an extra £4 because we already had discounts on the account and for us it would be an extra £12 to increase to 20Mb.
Can they do this? While i appreciate we have discounts on the account already, they did send us the offer of the increase in broadband for £4 a month, so why offer it us if we cannot have it?
I would understand if it was just a leaflet dropped through the door, but it was addressed to my OH.

It's a computer generated mailshot. I work in billing and this kind of thing can happen quite easily if the report the mailshot is based off is done badly and unfortunately I doubt they're obliged to let you have it at that cost

The terms will state not valid in conjunction with other offers.
End of story.0 -
Yes, they can. The flyer was an invitation to treat. You made the offer when you called, and they declined the offer.Gone ... or have I?0

I didn't make an offer, we simply quoted what we'd been offered and it was addressed to us, not like it was just dropped in every letter box. Waste of time sending customers offers if they're not going to honour it.
£4 suddenly turned into £12 is a bit of a difference.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

It will be £4 extra to their normal pricing for the package you have but if you already have discount then they are simply saying that they won't give you both offers at the same time.0 -

DMG24 described what actually happens in law. The invitation to treat is basically inviting you to make an offer to them. For a contract to come into acceptance, there needs to be an offer and an acceptance. Their mailshot was not an offer.

I'd question whether you can even get 20mb where you live, irrespective of the cost. i.e. what they will guarantee you, rather than what they will charge you for.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

Virgin's speeds aren't far off what they say, unlike an adsl line.0
