Double Glazing ..... Value increase?

Just thought someone may be able to help out with some "independent" advice?
I have a house worth £215-225k, mortgage of £145k and am thinking of getting double glazing pur in throughout.
Cost of doing this would be between £6-8k.......
Would I make that money back or better off selling as it is?
Estate Agents views so far are mixed......
Cheers

Hmm are you planning on moving stright away? or staying for a while longer? the house i am buying has no D/G I am not that happy about this, however its was reflected in the price ( shame its still very top of our budget!) at some point once funds allow I will get it installed as I hate the cold!Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0

Possibly looking to move mid-late summer (august-sept)
I guess its a good move as it will make it more "sellable" (if thats such a word!!!) but balancing whether it makes financial sense is the problem?0 -
Double glazing is expected by most people these days so having it wouldn't increase value so much as not having it will devalue the house. I think you would only get back a little more than the cost of doing it as potential buyers will knock off the cost, plus a little for the hassle of doing it.
I wouldn't bother with it if that's all that needs doing. You might end up having to decorate after their mess, so as your buyers might want to redecorate anyway, you may as well leave it to them. As long as your price reflects the fact that you don't have it, someone will buy.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I wouldn't bother. I was in the same position years ago, decided to have them installed and sold the house. My next door neighbour who had an identical house without dg sold 2 weeks after me for £5K more, go figure! I wouldn't do it again, you don't get your money back!0

Double glazing in your house will make it more appealing to a lot of buyers.
I'd never even view a house that didn't have double glazing. Not only do I not want the hassle of having to get it installed & face the need to decorate after, but I tend to feel a house that doesn't have double glazing has been a bit neglected, is probably dated & in need of cash & work to make it an attractive home. I may well be wrong, but as I never view I don't know. :rotfl:
In many areas lots of houses are struggling to sell at the moment, so anything you can do to make your house better than the one previously viewed may work in your favour. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Look at it another way...if you sell your house with double glazing and your neighbour was selling an identical house but single glazed, who's is going to be the most appealing. I'm sure even if yours was a few grand more someone would still buy it ahead of the other.
You shouldn't just look at double glazing in the instant net worth of your property. The huge difference in comfort and fuel savings account for a lot.0 -
It wouldnt bother me, i dont even like double glazing so would make no difference. The house next door to me has double glazing in its bay window and its a right mess, windowsill is all twisted out of shape and the plastic has gone a horrible dity colour- this is not through neglect, the house is well kept the double glazing is just old and worn, i like my wooden frames that can be stripped and repainted and look fresh and new all the time.0

I doubt it would increase the value of the house by much certainly not the full value you would pay to have it fitted, however it would make a house more desirable.0

We bought our house 4 months ago, it's not double glazed and it's not something that really bothered us. Ok the windows let in the cold a bit, but our last house had aluminium DG and they were just as bad for letting the cold in. I would just make sure the decor is in good nick and leave the windows to the new owners.0
