Do I Have To Declare It?

Hi, first post here, just looking for a bit of advice.

Just got my first car insurance renewel reminder through, so shopping about at different insurance companies at the minute.

I'm just wondering; I had an accident in one of my driving lessons nearly two years ago, no fault, he accepted fault, driver pulled out into me, front passenger side, car was wrote off, I was driving, instructor was in passenger seat. Police were on site (they were a few cars behind him) and took details, except mine, they never questioned me, driving instructor had my details though, but I never heard anything back from the police. The only interaction I had with this afterwards was a claim I made of personal injury, which was paid straight away.

Now I declared this accident on my first year of car insurance, and I'm just wondering if I should have, I only declared it because I was unsure if it was classed for me, or not and didn't want my insurance to suddenly become invalid, and it didn't make a price difference to the quote if I included it anyway, so I added it.

But could I get away with not declaring it, as technically I haven't claimed anything from an insurance company, and when I come to get quotes the accident boxes usually ask for a value, where I don't think it's fair for me to put the "X" amount my driving instructor got to replace his car, and I can't put the PI claim as that was done through an independant solicitors.

Just looking for some advice about what I can do, because claims seem to affect some of my quotes I get, and would rather it wasn't there if it doesn't need to be.

Thanks

yes as you were driving, it doesnt matter that you werent on you own policy then, it means accidents while you were driving

Agreed with the above, you need to declare the accident. It should not have much if any effect if you were not at fault and a full recover way made.

It will not make a single penny difference to the premium so don't worry too much about that :)

    Poor advice.

Any history of incidents (fault or no fault) is likely (though not definitely guaranteed) to affect your profile on which the premium is setm meaning a higher premium is likely.

Especially for those with little driving experience/NCD.

Rating structures often work by applying risk points based on the number, value and nature of claims. One non fault claim should have little difference, though of course yes it might have some. Having two will start to bump it up a bit, particulalry for a driver under 25. Any increases should be much less than if the claims were fault claims.
