Paid back Tax Credits Overpayment

I hope someone can help!

I had a tax credits overpayment in 2007/2008 and started paying monthly installments by standing order in January 2008 of £62 per month for 10 months.

I called the tax credits office this morning (for something unrelated!) and they have advised that they only received 2 payments towards the overpayment, one payment in July 2008 and the other in October 2008.

I told them that I had bank statements to prove that I had made the payments and that the overpayment had been paid back but they still insisted that they never received any other payments!

How can this be?

I have obviously set up the standing order right as they did receive 2 payments into the account!!

They also said that they always have problems with standing orders - has anyone else paid back by standing order and had problems?

Like you say if they received the first two payments, then they must have received the others.

Did you change the reference on the other payments. Sometimes they just can't find the payment. I didn't put the right reference on something once and they swore I hadn't paid.

At the end of the day if you have bank statements and can prove that the payments have gone to them, you will be ok.

Thanks Jet.. no I didn't change any reference numbers.. I set up the standing order and it ran for 10 months.. They said they received July and October payments but not the others... its a complete mystery.. just wondered if this had happened to anyone else.... thanks again!
