DVD player broke??

I was sat down this afternoon and my dvd player would not work. Its been playing up for a while. It is a sony dav s550 surround system. Are dvd players easy to fix?
It cost a fortune new and i don't really want to splash out all that cash again. Is there a direct replacement dvd player for my system so i can plug my speakers into it?

Depends what is wrong with it. I managed to break the dvd loading bay on mine! Sorry didn't really explain myself. The discs just keep jumping all the time and there new dvd's. Three different ones i have tried, so not pleased.
