Well said dunstonh. I see pedro is attempting to derail yet another thread with his incessant and biased polemics.
To the OP - if you need any help on taking it further I would advise you to ask anyone else on this thread except pedro. Then you might have a chance of formulating a concise and logical argument.0 -

I've no idea why Ban-ki-moons thread got deleted but I suspect it may have had something to do with Pedro's posts. Please do not let that happen here since Judy is in need of help and many on this board are happy to give it without having to debate and justify our existence every other post.0 -
Agree matty, lets keep Judy's post for advice for her, she does not need our arguements0

Juddy I am sorry and I apologise if my posting on your thread has disrupted things for you, that was never my intention.
I hope you don’t mind but I would just like to address the relevant points if that’s ok (there aint many) by other people………………..it will be my last post on your thread, so as to let you carry on and get the help you need and offered by raskass
Of course I offer to discuss further with other board members if the wish to open a new thread.
Dunstonh, I am not on the same side of the fence as you, I am firmly in the other corner so to speak, and there is no one more pleased than I about that. You have your opinions and beliefs I have mine I could not possibly agree with you, you agree with how this lady has been dealt with as do others apparently….so ok agree to disagree.
Raskass…………”polimic” another brilliant word, they just roll of your tongue, thanks for your input………remind me not to challenge you at scrabble
Anyway Raskass, thanks for offering yourself and others to help Juddy 1 in her plight against the unfairness of her legitimate claim, now I’m going to sit back and watch what help you promised to deliver. Please use words that are within most normal vocabularies though.
Mattymoo My thought is the Banki was unfairly banned from the site, the fact that he has been banned would believe me to think that there are more influential individuals on this site than me, my guess is that banki has contacted you ,banki was a promoter of transparency within the Insurance Industry and possible financial issues to boot.
In MHO banki is a trustworthy fella
Dacouch………….you know I wouldn’t do anything to impair Juddy 1 getting help
Anyway Juddy 1, I wish you well and hope that offers of help come in, I have offered my help if needed and I have said how that help “may” be useful……………..we will see.
Let’s be having a speedy recovery, and DON’T let this issue get you down.

Hi Judy,
Try some of the things we have recommended, it would also be worth you asking your bank to get involved as they would have earned a very big commission for selling you the policy. Part of their job would be to help you out when you have any problems with yourn policy so get them involved.
You mention you got a quote from Hiscox, they have earned one of the best reputations for Insurance. Their home insurance is designed for people who demand the best, it has very very little small print. They pride themselves that their policy cover is so wide that they pay a large percentage of claims that would not actually be covered by a normal policy. I think they would even gain the Pedro seal of approval as they are actually his idea of how an Insurer should be. The only catch with Hiscox is that as with anything in life that is the best is that the best costs more than run of the mill and most people want the cheapest possible in life.
Their claims handlers wouldn have been out to you the next day on your claim and if we ignore the non disclosed claim they would have issued a cheque to you there and then if the claim was under £10000. They even allow you to get a quote from the jeweller / supplier you would normally use. SO if you bought it from Harrods they would pay the Harrods price.
If you are prepared to pay for the best, go with Hiscox at renewal as it would be so much easier for you0 -
Hi Judy,
The only catch with Hiscox is that as with anything in life that is the best is that the best costs more than run of the mill and most people want the cheapest possible in life.
If you up the policy excess to £250 then the premiums fall in line with the rest of the market (although their excess is only £50). In effect you self insure the first £250.

Hi Judy,
This thread has been going off topic slightly, we tend to have discussions amongst ourselves which can be distracting.
It will help you if we summarise the best course of action for you.
You are not the first and will certainly not be the last person to ommit to declare a claim to their Insurers. It is very common and the Financial Ombudsman deals with many similar cases.
Here are the guidance notes from the Financial Ombudsman on non disclosed claims http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/ombudsman-news/1/non-disclosure.htm and http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/ombudsman-news/27/27-ins-nondisclosure.htm Here are some case examples he has dealt with http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/ombudsman-news/1/non-disclosure-case-studies.htm#01/025
When dealing with the Insurers it is far better to be polite and friendly with the claims handler as they are far more likely to go out of their way to assist you than if they are shouted at or insulted.
a) Do you have a son or daughter or neighboor etc who could handle this matter for you? I often find this can make things a lot easier and will take the stress of calling people away from you. If you do have someone then show them this thread as there is some great adice posted by fellow MSE members
b) Give the Financial Ombudsman a call and discuss the matter, here are their contact details http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/contact/index.html Do not be scared to ring them. They are very approachable and are very consumer focused. It would help if you could have details of when you took out your policy and the approximate date of the claim. They will discuss the matter (They probably will not become involved at this stage but sometime ring the Insurer to give them guidance) with you and give you good advice. They will also advise you of their views on your case.
c) If you have not put in writing to your Insurers the reason you did not disclose the claim and any mitigating circumstances as to why you did not eg the medical problem around the same time. Then put it in a letter, keep the letter polite, explain the circumstances and any problems it is causing you. If your doctor is prepared to write a short not confirming your medical problems at the time and any implications they may have on you not declaring the claim then it might help if you enclose this.
If you can get a family member or neighboor involved ask them to perform a quotation with the same Insurer, enter the same details including the claim but change the claim date so it is the same age as the claim was when you took cover out with your company. Hopefully they will offer a quotation, if they do then get them to take a print of the quote and information you have entered. This could proof to be helpful in your case.
If you need any further advice feel free to post up here, we are a friendly bunch and genuinely want to help fellow MSE members.
If the above advice does not sort the claim out for you post back on here and we can advise you on how to proceed to make a complaint to the Ombudsman
Don't get stressed by the claim, its not unusual to not disclose a claim. We have helped many other MSE members who have been in a similar situation get their claims resolved. I cannot gurantee that your claim will be paid but there is a good chance it will be if its handled correctly and you put your case forward in a truthful and accurate way.
OTHER MSE POSTERS, please feel free to post on this thread but can we keep it on topic and give clear and helpful advice to Judy. She is having a stressful time and has had a stroke so it will be far more help for her if we keep on topic.0
