Such Deceptive Air Fares!

Just booked a flight with BMI baby from Durham to Heathrow for September. Return flight quoted as £38 and then an add-on of £48!! for taxes etc plus £4 for the credit card payment! When is this deceptive advertizing going to be regulated?

I notice that BA now advertise all their flights as inclusive of all charges. I always compare any "cheap" flight with them now as more often than not they are either not that much more or sometimes cheaper/better flying times.

As an aside www.sidestep.com/air is a great comparison as you can use their smart search to narrow down times/airports/direct etc.

OP, you've obviously never travelled with Ryanair - and believe it or not you didn't have to buy the tickets

On Ryanair, a 'free' flight ends up being £50+ once they add the taxes and charges for paying by c/c. I'm glad some flight companies are now quoting prices 'all in'.

I agree about annoying "add ons". I was very pleased to have found "free" flights from Birmingham to Glasgow from Flybe yet when the total came up ie 2 adult free flights plus one child free flight it was £119.94 - hardly free!! Have not booked yet but still think this is the cheapest around so if anyone knows better please let me know!

Ryanair aren't as bad as stated, I've had return flights for less than £40 including all taxes etc. It is a bleedin' liberty though, no mistake.

Air Berlin are excellent amongst the low-fare carriers, as they quote full prices on the page that tells you the flight times etc.

At the end of the day whether the initial price is quoted including or excluding charges its what you actually pay that matters. I find it strange that people complain about this sort of thing, even when a flight is advertised as free but ends up being £40 all in it is still a hell of a lot cheaper than paying the BA all inclusive rate.

    Absolute rubbish.

heres a breakdown of a random penny EW return journey from Stansted to St Etienne going out Mon 27 March, returning Fri 31 March
    Going Out (Web fare) 1 @ 0.01 GBP = 0.01 GBP
    Taxes, Fees & Charges
    6.64 GBP

    Coming Back (Web fare) 1 @ 0.01
GBP 0.01 GBP Taxes, Fees & Charges
    6.64 GBP

    Total Cost of Flight
    excluding handling fee (if applicable)
    13.30 GBP

Normally fees come to around max 13GBP EW
So a return journey should be no more than 26GBP. Paying by debit card is only 40p extra

I've found Ryanair to have some of the lowest extra charges in the industry.
