Free prescriptions question

I am currently getting long term in capacity benefit and council tax benefit, as council tax benifit is income related benefit. I have been claiming free prescriptions.
Today I had a letter billing me for £85 as it says i was not entitle to free prescriptions is this right, should I appeal or pay up?
Any answers appreciated.

I think you have to be on Income Support or Jobseekers' Allowance to qualify if you are under 60.
Here's a list of the entitlement:

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I think you are right - along with ESA(IR) of course.seven-day-weekend wrote: »I think you have to be on Income Support or Jobseekers' Allowance to qualify if you are under 60.

For automatic free prescriptions that is correct. http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcosts/Pages/Prescriptioncosts.aspx
But if you only have IB as income, have a look at the Low Income Scheme here:

That will probably help you.

You probably need to just pay up as you've actually been making a fraudulent statement by claiming exemption from charges.
What you need to apply for is a HC12 form to give you free or reduced cost prescriptions, dental treatment & opticals on low income grounds. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
