Wetherspoons pubs do quite a varied menu, but the portions aren't huge! (The BBQ Chicken Melt is v good value though!) Different pubs have different atmospheres and you can choose between the "pub" part or the "family" area. My kids (17 and 20) like the relaxed, adult atmosphere!
Ipswich has 2 outlets, Wetherspoons, 10 Corn St and The Cricketers at 51 Crown St. Colchester has The Playhouse at St Johns St.
Their website has a pub-finder and menus.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
  • Try brewers fayre at the balkerne gate. The daily mail usually have a buy 1 get 1 free voucher on a thursday.
  • We had a similar experiance with Fatty Arbuckles about 3 years ago, but the service was poor too:rolleyes: I sent a letter to head office expressing my concerns and noted about the false advertising on "american sized meals". Pointed out the terrible quality of the food and our drinks were flat too.

We received a letter of apology in the post offering us a free meal and everything on them. We went down a couple of weeks later and had the best service and quality of food ever and we didnt pay a penny.

Worth complaining as their meals are not cheap and you should receive what you pay for. We being British do NOT complain enough. Could you honestly see the americans serving sub-sandard food like this...errr....NO!! The more genuine complaints we make, the better quality of food and service we will receive in the UK.

On the England board there's a whole thread for reasonably priced restaurants which it might be worth searching!
