Do i have to be named on the mortgage?

Options
Hi, been a keen reader of these forums for a while now but i'm come across a question that I can 't seem to find an answer to.

My girlfriend is trying to buy a house for us. We've had a mortgage agreed in principle, found a house and had an offer accepted on the house. I have an IVA but my gf has a really good credit rating.

Do I have to be named on the mortgage application as going to be living there?

We're not doing a joint application but I don't want my bad credit to mess things up.

Thank you in advance

Col

When you say "we've" had a mortgage agreed, do you mean "she"? i.e. the mortage offer is based solely on her income?

If so, I can't see any problem with that. It'll be her house and she can have anybody she likes staying there.

    er...she does like you doesn't she?? ;)

they do ask , will anyone else be living there ,if she answers NO ,well she can change her mind and let you stay .

If its her mortgage then its fine. If however its a joint mortgage then its not. Quite simple.

The only downside though is if the mortgage is hers, and you break up then the house will also be hers, even if you have helped pay the mortgage and bills etc. Sorry for looking at the pessimistic side of life for a moment there

Although you can iirc be named on the deed for the house but not the mortgage.
  • Thanks for the replys :)

The mortgage was agreed just on her income alone so by the sounds of it all should be ok and now we can stop worrying like mad.

This house buying thing is a bit of a nail biter isn't it

    Thank you again :D:D:D
