Gym Membership

  • My friend recently cancelled her gym membership without speaking to the gym first, and it caused all kinds of problems. She didn't realise when she signed up for 12 months that she had signed a credit agreement, therefore when she cancelled the DD, the finance company threatened to take her to court.

She's now having to pay £33 a month and cannot get to the gym as she has moved.
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!

Ive recently signed up to an Esporta Gym.

In the credit agreement, it does mention a break of some sort. I cant remember full details. Just talk to them and ask. But they dont have to budge at the end of the day - you've signed a contract to pay them for 12 months.
  • Tinker_belle which company is it with, or is it with a local council run leisure centre ?

    It is David Llyod

This also happened to a friend of mine, so I know we are lucky that it is just 3 months.

I have to say DH was pretty good and went at least once or twice a week, but the costs of DL is so expensive that it is a waste of money - I told him that I don't have problem with him going to one of the cheaper ones, but the others all seem a bit rubbish in our town to be honest, that is why he joined DL in the first place.

Nope he didn't sign a 12 month contract, their policy is that you have to give them 3 months notice.
  • When he joined he will of signed a contract, somewhere in the t&c's it will state how many months notice he will have to give to cancel.
By not serving the notice period he will brake the agreement.

its a tricky one, do you pay the notice period or see what happens
its a risk - DL are a large commercial company, im not sure how far they will go but they defo wont let it drop.
