First of all you don't say what the socket is. Why not connect up a DVD player this is the best option. Are you wanting to watch blu-ray then you will want a HDMI cable. 15 pin D-sub cable is another for video but you need another cable for the sound.

    Just plug it in??

It depends on what connector the TV and the pc have but as long as your PC has the right connection coming out of it (usually a dvi connection) then you just pull the lead out of the back of your monitor and stick in the back of the telly and scroll through your input options on the remote (av1, av2, dvi, etc) until you see your computer on the telly.

If your computer doesn't have the right connection then it may be possible to get an adaptor or you may have to replace your graphics card.
  • be nice if it was that simple just to plug it in but its not quite.

Check what resolution your tv can display first before just plugging the pc in as if your pc is set to the wrong resolution the tv will not be able to display it.

Once you know the resolution open up the display options while still plugged into the monitor and select the correct setting then you can plug it in and hopefully it will work

  • I was in a similar quandary recently when choosing cables to connect my laptop to my TV. The general consensus I found was gold connectors aren't worth it at all and infact silver conducts better than gold. VGA cables are better than S-Video. Don't buy anything longer than you need.

In the end I choose the following and I must say they're as good as the reviews, they're perfect.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fisual-Pearl-VGA-Male-Cable/dp/B000WTT0EG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240134161&sr=8-1

I appreciate it looks like I'm going back on my gold comment but after reading the reviews for both cables I was happy to pick these.
