BT Contract, Moving to a Different Exchage & Callsure Call Redirection!

Options
Hi, firstly I have a small business and I am moving premises shortly. BT inform me that the new premises are on a different exchange and so I can't take my number with me , personally I surprised BT don't port numbers between their own exchanges for a silly fee! But anyway they don't and im told there is no way around this so all my advertising etc will become useless unless I can have calls redirected. Now if I am correct I can have a recorded message re-directing call for approx. £30 per quarter (which i think may put callers off) or calls forwarded if I keep the old line active and pay both line rentals and a silly fee, which isn't going to be economical to the business. Anyhow, i have seen a website for callsure07050 which it seems solves the problem for a smaller fee than BT -at least until I can change my Yellow Pages ad etc next year but I can't see any feedback on them. Has anyone had any dealings with them before or can you provide a reputable alternative? Thanks! :D

If it involves, as the website name you quote suggests, the use of an 070 number, avoid it (the fact that 070 numbers are not mobile numbers and cost up to 50p/minute to call is becoming more widely known and you will lose business).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Im not convienced that it does, but Im not professing to understand...this is from the website:

    Number Porting
    • Perfect for keeping your old number when you move premises (even outside your local area)
    • Save Money - pay as little as £3 per month. (BT charge over £100 per quarter for a simple call diversion from one exchange to another)
    • You can also save money when you move from a dedicated fixed fax line to our FAX to EMAIL service.
    • Switch Phone Providers to us (and you can keep your old number)
    • Porting is available for BT, Energis, Virgin Media (Telewest/NTL/Eurobell) and many VoIP numbers.
    • You can now port all BT and Virgin Media geographic area code telephone numbers. Non-geographic numbers beginning with 08 (e.g 0800, 0870, 0845) supplied by BT or Energis can also be ported. We regret that we cannot port Virgin Media non-geographic numbers beginning with 08.
    • We are also able to port numbers from some existing VoIP providers such as Sipgate and Vonage (providing you have their agreement to do so).

How do I check if my number is portable?

    Can I Keep My Existing Number(s) ?

We can port fixed line and VoIP numbers from companies we have porting agreements with. Portable numbers should be live and have an active service with the current provider. *BT Wholesale (e.g. Talk Talk, OneBill Telecom) geographic and non-geographic numbers
    * Virgin Media (NTL / Telewest) geographic numbers only
    *Energis non-geographic only

*Gamma Telecom Clients (a wide variety of VoIP Companies included)

Note it is possible to port all BT geographic area code telephone numbers and non-geographic BT numbers beginning with 08 (e.g 0800, 0870, 0845).

    Online Number Lookup Facility

You can check who the operator is using the online XX. Simple input your telephone number in the 'Partial Telephone Number to Lookup' field and then click on 'Lookup Number'. The search result will display the 'Operator'.

    Porting Restrictions

The following circumstances will not prevent the export of a number:

    *Change number Interception (CNI)
    * Permanent call diversion
    * Subsequent ports (where a number has been previously ported from Virgin and now billed by BT)

The following circumstances will prevent the export of a number:

*Numbers associated with a temporary service
    *Inactive numbers
*A non-BT or Virgin Media account number (unless with another VoIP provider*)
    * A non-BT or Virgin Media provided number (unless with another VoIP provider*)
    * To port a SIP number we would require a letter of authorisation from the losing provider and also the letter of authorisation customer.
