Where to stay for a few days in early June?

I have the week commencing 8th June booked off work and need to spend a few days away in the UK. I have a car and sat nav, so can go to places without problems. The reason I do want to go away is that the next time I have some annual leave is early Nov!
I live in Leicestershire. I don't want to go to London. I am looking for good things to do - shopping, tourist attractions etc.
I don't mind how far I travel.
I am needing your advice asap so I can book a hotel.

I went on a day trip from London to Cardiff (to the theatre, as missed a london show) and it looked a great place to visit again, so I booked £9 Travelodge sale rooms for October at Atlantic Wharf. Cardiff Bay had a new theatre and was lovely. There was Cardiff Castle, plenty of shopping and seemed to be a lot of places nearby to visit. Another place I found good was Oxford and www.deverevenues.co.uk/ had a recent sale on, (click on the low cost room finder link) and the Milton House 4 star Abington hotel was £10 a night.0
