Hi everyone, hope someone can help. Today we've received 2 phone calls, when we answer its dead air and then it hangs up. When we ring 1471 it says the number is 0000000000000? My mum who lives in the next village along has been having the same problem. Anyone experienced this before and know what it is? Also does anyone know how to stop it??

Many thanks in advance :o
You're so very special, I wish I was special

Don't waste your time (or theirs) reporting this to the police, they won't be interested (what's the offence?).

Almost certainly it's a cold-calling auto-dialler programmed to send a bogus CLI so as to get past any 'anonymous call reject' programming.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

That is no doubt the answer. I use Skype as my landline and l can choose whatever number l like to show as my CLI

Stop answering the phone to strangers and get an answering machine.
