There is still a milkman who delivers my milkJustin_Credit wrote:In some parts of Britain, I believe, there are still milkmen that deliver directly to the door. Me, I just get it at the nearest supplier when I'm driving past, although if I had the time I would occasionally walk, but only to the nearest supplier.
Regards JC
I know i would save 16p a pint if i walked to the local supermarket (more if i brought the 6 pint cartons) which is a minimum saving of around £25 a year to a maximum of £45
However i don't need to worry about forgetting to buy milk on the way home from work for breakfast.
Mr Milkman needs to have his income and if we all stopped using him he'd be on the dole
and the most important reason, the glass pint bottles are recycled unlike the plastic cartons which in Birmingham are burnt :mad:Debt of £6300 cleared in 5 years, now ZERO0 -
how long can you keep milk in the freezer? do you defrost it at room temperature? how long does it take?I'd walk further but buy more milk at a time, it ususally lasts at least a week at a time, and any extra I would freeze, then I'd get the extra exercise especially on my arms carrying them and save money whilst having to go to the shop less often which would be time and cost effective0 -
Generally it doesn't say on the cartons (the ones that do says you shouldn't freeze in the original container, although i have done in the past with no problems)homersimpson wrote:how long can you keep milk in the freezer? do you defrost it at room temperature? how long does it take?
Again it says it should be used witin 3 months and treated as fresh when opened
Personally when i did it i stuck it in the fridge, it does take longer (around 24 hours) but its in situ so you can just forget about it til the next dayDebt of £6300 cleared in 5 years, now ZERO0 -

I was thinking along the lines of freezing milk to save the need to shop every other day too.
I've never kept milk in the fridge longer than a month or so, but others might know if it lasts longer. It separates and looks funny once frozen, but is fine once fully defrosted. I defrost mine in the fridge overnight - you have to be a bit organised, it's no use for emergencies! For that I use long life.0 -
with batgirl on this one. we freeze milk it's fine. had milk frozen for longer then 3 months, it's been fine. we either leave it out all day - usually cause one of us forgets to put it in the fridge and then we go out....or i put it in the fridge, not realising oh needs it sooner....planning not strong point....nor are capital letters tonight

I freeze milk too, but I also keep some dried milk in (often needed for the BM anyway) so if I forget to defrost I can quickly mix up just enough to tide us over. If it needs using up before it's Best Before date, it gets used up in puddings

I freeze milk and defrost it on the side, take a few hours then. In the fridge it takes more than a day!
somnetimes I stick it in a bowl of cold/lukewarm water to speed it up - but if it's just for a cup of coffee then once a little bit has melted you can pour it out round the side of the frozen block.
I have been known to run it under hot water so I can have a coffee!!:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
