card fraud

Hi, went to the do it all, bought less than £15 worth of items, went to pay for them with my card and it came up as ring bank for authorisation, I went to the till with a very kind lady who rang through and I spoke to the person and got asked a few security questions and my payment was authorised, on speaking to the person at the bank they gave me a telephone number and suggested I ring asap. Got home and rang the bank (Halifax) and got put through to the fraud dept, I was asked the usual security questions then got asked had I used my card for a £30 o2 top up, a £70 donation to the nspcc, the same to the rspca and higher amounts amounts to 2 other charities, a further £126 to something called Millers? I said no, and I was told that in the past few hours these transactions had been made using my card, so that was the reason my card had been stopped when I attempted to use it, as due to the nature of my account it appeared strange, I also noticed whilst talking to them on the phone that a further paymebnt of over £200 had been made to buy somethn from argos, I have been assured that I will get this money back £700 plus in total but that this could take 5-7 weeks, apparently they have put in the post a declaraion form for me to sign stating that none of the purchases were made by me. On receiving my statemnt I also noticed that a debit of 1 pence was took from my account 2 weeks ago? I cannot understand why it will take so long for me to get back my money, I am really disgusted that it will take so long, has anyone else had a similar problem with the halifax, and did it take as long for you to get your money back

    Hi there

Sorry to hear about your money going missing - it's a nightmare situation. I'm also with HBOS, Halifax Bank of Scotland.

See my thread on the budgeting and bank account forums - it's called "Massive Chip and Pin theft". I wonder why you got a declaration form and I didn't...I'm getting nothing back of the money that was stolen, they're blaming me, and well, read the thread, you'll get the idea. And use the advice the fantastic people there gave me! They've been brilliant and it's really helped my case so far, I'd highly recommend you keep on top of this and demand answers - make sure they are really looking into your case. I'd hate to hear of another person going through what I'm going through at the hands of this bank.

Hi, thanks for your response, I spoke to the fraud dept yesterday and was told that the reason the bank "stopped " my card and requested authorisation was that within 2 hours I had managed to firstly top up an o2 phone with £30, (I was told by the fraud squad that this is a beginning attempt to steal money from your account) then I made 4 donations to charity , a further payment to a company called miller? and a purchase at argos, which was made over the internet with requested delivery so must be traceable, and that the bank were aware of these fraud attempts, yet they still allowed money to go from my account, I was told though that had I not used my ebit card and used a credit card instead, I would not get any money back and be held liable for the debt even though it wasnt me, I will keep on top of it, as I really dont see why it will take so long, Will definately read your thread and thanks again,

Hi, they have changed my card, but I am still waiting for a new one, I have also just found out that the fraud began days before I first thought as payments are still leaving my account, apparently the transactions were made before my card was stopped and therefore they have allowed the payments to leave my account as they said it could have been me
Anyway I have received my declaration to sign and have been assured that transactions declined by the bank will take 3-5 days to go back into my account, but the payments that have left my account will take 5-7 weeks, so I am technically broke and unable to pay my bills, I have been assured that should I go over my overdraft limit until my account is sorted I will not get charged, but until I have it stated in a letter I dont think I will be going overdrawn,
