HELP! scottish power customer

i am on a budgeting scheme and i pay £80 a month for electric and £40 for gas i got a letter stating i had to pay a further £77 because i had used more electric than caculated. now when i started with them about 5 years ago it has always been at the end of the year i pay off which ever is outstanding or if they owe me and they always owe me. they have said the quarterly scheme no longer exists and now i have to go on a monthly budget scheme is this true i dont know but if i go on another scheme does this mean i have to sign a new yearly contract because i dont want to be charged for leaving this scheme they are trying to put me on.

i would be grateful for any feed back:confused:

  • You need to call them back insist on quarterly payments and ask to speak to customer care if they refuse. As I understand it they will still allow quarterly payment if you insist on it but they are trying to discourage it (they want people on payment plans or with prepayment meters to make sure they get payment) and won't take on new customers who want to pay this way.

What is this budgeting scheme you are on?

You say you pay monthly now, but you have to go on a monthly budget scheme? I'm not sure what you mean by this.

It may well be true that you cannot pay quarterly on the tariff you're on but you need to tell us which tariff and what 'budgeting scheme'.
  • I give up with them they now want me to pay an extra £15 a month on top of the £120 i already pay because i have used more than what they calculated at the begining of the year. i owe them £50
my original scheme which was quarterly standard tarrif i paid a fixed amount every month ( stated above ) and i would pay anything outstanding.at the end of 2008 my rates were
9.850 now its 10.830 for electric
3.26 now its 3.70 for gas as i know they had a price cut in march
7.5% for electric and 3% for gas.

i think they are being a tad dishonest !
  • Energy watch has been replaced by Direct consumer
to be honest they were not that much help all i can do is write a letter of complaint to scottish power.
i have just been on their web site and looked up the standard tarrif at the moment is 11.293 i am sure they are making it up as they go along..............
