today she recieved a letter saying that her debt had been passedd onto anotger agent and they want abalance of £125.00 paid now or there will be court priceedings.
just wondered if anyone jnew where she stood or what can be done. she doesnt have that sort of money

My brother got into serious debt, and this sounds similar to what happened to him.
Basically, various companies buy Bad Debt, to see how much of it they can get back. He was in a real mess (lets just say he won't be able to get another CC or loan for a while). However, what he did learn is that a lot of these companies use bullying tactics to get the money from you.
Simply tell them you can't afford it. Is the total balance that remains only £125??? I would offer them half of that amount to settle straight away and cancel the debt if your M-I-L can affrord it. If not, offer them what you can afford (i.e. £10 a month). For that amount of money, they won't take you to court.
Hope this is of some help. Am new to the site, so am sure some more learned members will come up with some other advice as well!!!!
