Garage charges - but vito not fixed

Can anyone please assist.

I am unsure of my legal rights re this issue.

My Vito went in for a full service 2 weeks ago. Not a Mercedes garage but a very well established garage that has been around for years and is used to dealing with vans.

It needed a few bits repairing so all in all about £1200 was spent.

A few days later it would not start. It was towed to the same garage and has been there ever since.

They have tried everything and anything and have finally replaced a major component but are still telling me they are unsure if it will work.

My bill is currently running at £850 and mounting by the day.

This is a reputable garage in my area. I have used them before and cannot see them trying to pull a fast one.............but...........If they cannot fix it how do I stand re this huge mounting bill?

I am guessing most of the bill is for labour? Did they make you aware that changing the parts that they are may not result in the problem being fixed before you gave the go ahead? If so then i'm afraid that's life as they say.

i know of a garage near me who refused to even service my vito when i had it, he said 2 of them almost put his buisness under. he vowed never to touch another one.
im having a stab in the dark here but im guessing the problems fuel related,it usually is, they have serious problems with the injectors, fuel lines, filter housings, infact anything relating to the fuel. terrible vans.

Yip as they would pin point it straight away without guessing by changing various parts ;)

My Dads A Class went into a Merc dealer as the emissions light was illuminated. They wanted £1,200 for a new air mass meter. Engine light disappeared for a week and reappeared - £400 for a new throttle body sensor. 2 days later and the same light - £300 for a 02 sensor and "other work".

Problem with modern cars are that one component flagging a fault can be falsed into doing so by a different component.

Yip had that fault on my A class you can get the air mass meter repaired ;) And i had a dash problem all sorted quite smoothly with mercedes...They did however try to bill me for parts they had replaced but did not rectifie the problem but i refused to pay :)

Thats the beauty with main dealers as they should know what is wrong first time and not just replace parts willy nilly.

but they dont always do they. i use diagnostic software everyday and its very up to date but will never be perfect and never always point directly to the problem.

the best option is to fix the van and sell it on and find something better and cheaper to repair. my vito visited a local merc commercial dealer regularly,i dont think it ever had a day when everything worked properly,it used to go to the dealer with one fault and leave with a few extras.and as for the snootyness and totally unhelpfulness of the staff, dont get me started. oh and the wiring looms on a lot of modern merc vans are particularly crap.
the vito is a van best avoided unless you have an endless supply of cash.

I know what your saying ;)

But with a main dealer you have that to fall back on as said earlier they should get it right first time..If they have changed parts willy nilly thats their problem not the customers.:)
