Skype and Windows 98

in Techie Stuff
A mate has windows 98 ,he would like to us Skype to make phones calls but ,Skype site says it only runs on xp .Anyone know if its possible to run on 98.

    I installed it on my W98 laptop - seem to recall it appeared to install OK, but suffered from regular crashes.

    Can you tell me if this was long time ago ,or quite recent.Only conection is reported to be a lot better these days.

    About 3 months ago - I may just have been unlucky but I didn't persue the matter as I would never have used it at work anyway (which is where I use the old lappy).
