Sending cash to seller?

I recently won an auction for an item (only £1.80 including postage).
The seller has as their payment methods either paypal, which I'm not signed up for or personal cheque. I e-mailed the seller asking if it'd be ok just to send 2 x £1 coins taped to some card as payment but have not yet received a response.
Would you guys just go ahead and send it anyway? I don't really wanna do a cheque cos of the amount of time it takes and it's part of a birthday present.
Thanks

Don't you then have to pay for a postal order too?! I wouldn't mind as long as it's not double or something0

Recorded is not worth the 75p extra, half the time there is no signature and if it does get lost there is no compensation for cash anyway.

Actually lisawood78 is correct, we can't tell you what the alternatives are, only the seller can. Your only chance is to either send a cheque and wait a week or so in case seller wants it cleared first (and many won't bother), or wait and see if seller responds to your request for an alternative payment method.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. How many sellers here would honestly wait for a £1.80 cheque to clear before sending an item?!
It's rare that I get cheques these days, but anything less than around £10 gets sent straight away, and I bank the cheque when I get the chance.
If it bounces, I just represent it - costs the buyer a lot more in fees, than it costs me in losses, and it's a risk I'm happy to take.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
I wouldn't wait for a small cheque to clear, although I have had two under £10 cheques bounce on me before from ebay buyers.
However, my son sent someone a cheque for £2.95 when he had problems with his paypal account (the fault lay entirely with my son BTW not paypal) and he waited 10 days for his goods as seller emailed to say all received cheques had to clear before goods were sent due to previous problems.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yeah the guys e-mail says he needs to wait for all personal cheques to clear before sending. I'll give him till the end of tomorrow to respond to my e-mail. If he doesn't then I have no problem sending a cheque.
Just thought sending cash would be quicker all round!0
