How much? where from? Been thinking about this myself, I've got a 320gb in my MacBookPro, so it's definately not urgent. There's a foam piece attached to the HDD though, and I'd be worried about installing another drive without it. Anyone have experience of moving it to another drive?

I've gone for the 500GB at Amazon at £80. I don't think the normal macbooks have the foam bit, been checking out the manual and a couple of vids online and they seem to suggest that it's just a few screws, a cable and a cradle. Will have to see how it goes.

The only thing that I'm wondering about still is when I get it, and use CCC to clone the disk, will it take care of the resizing of the partition or is this something I'll need to do later?

I think his new address is 2 Infinite Loop, Cupertino....

    Haha....I wish!

I'm moving to Arkansas, which as luck would have it, is one of only five US states not to have an Apple Store. This just after they opened an Apple Store in Belfast.

Still, Tulsa is "only a two hour drive" as my fiancee puts it.....:o

Just a quick note to thank everyone for the help. The 500GB 5400rpm disk arrived today and I ran CCC with the disk on a USB to SATA cable, it's now installed in the macbook and all appears to be well so far. Spotlight has decided to reindex but I guess that's because it had to do a file level copy rather than sector level but I've just plugged in the iphone again and it seems to be syncing ok (although I needed to start itunes manually to get it going... Update - Sorted it now, disabled auto-sync and re-enabled and it told me that the itunes helper needed to be installed)

Aside from that, relatively cheap and painless compared to my last PC hard disk upgrade...

Might be worth downloading Onyx and running a filesystem check then a permissions repair just in case CCC got anything wrong. Unlikely but Onyx is a good housekeeping tool.
