selling a car
Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help answer this query
I have bought a car, I want to sell it on, do not yet have the log book to say the car is mine - only collecting the car tonight/tomorrow
Can I sell the car without sending off the log book to have it put into my name?
or if I have to send it off how long does it take to come back?
Many thanks

You will struggle to sell a car without the logbook because people wont trust you.
go to the dvla website for info on logbooks. Not Again0 -
I have the log book, but not in my name
I guess the easiest thing to do then is to not send the log book off but to hold on to it as I will be selling the car straight on.....

depends if the person you are buying it off gives you the whole logbook or just the 'new keepers'part,
you can still sell it on with just the 'nkeepers' part but it will be more difficult especially if it is a stranger,
the logbook is 'only' about who is the registered keeper not the legal ownerIMOJACAR

2/3 weeks on average, but if selling on straight away(few days) then just pass the whole logbook on to the new ownerI

Wont be making a habit out of it, and in anycase I am sure that I will be able to negate any tax due on this occassion - road tax, insurance cover for period kept, petrol to pick up and return to home etc etc......
but thank you for pointing it out, although I was asking a question about log books not on how to save to pay the tax man :-)2007 £1749
