Help - DLA just called, having a panic attack!

Options
Hi

I submit a claim for DLA due to mental health illness (I have depression, anxiety and Borderline) about 4 weeks ago. I have just received a call from them, it was a private number and I never answer calls from these numbers, I need to know who I'm talking too! Anyway they've left a voice mail asking me to contact them.

I'm too scared to call! I'm terrible at speaking to strangers, I have trouble making myself understood, get my words all jumbled up. OMG! What am I going to do? What will they want?

they may just want to check something on your form.
or you have maybe missed some information that the need.

Whatever it is you will only get rid of the worrying and fretting by speaking to them.
While the phone is ringing at the other end take a deep breath and speak slowly and clearly, give yourself time to think and you'll probably endup laughing at all the worry.
DLA rang my husband up on his last claim because they wanted his post code. he had forgotten to put it on his form.

    Go for it!!
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

If you are so nervous you could ask someone to ring them on your behalf, you will have to speak to them to confirm you give them permission to speak on your behalf. That might make things a little easier for you.
Dont worry, it will just be to clarify something.

I was in exactly the same situation- word for word. I got my husband to ring them, with me next to him. He explained the situation & he chatted to them. I had to confirm who I was & who my husband was, but that was all. It ended up that I'd missed off my GPs details.

This seems an increasingly common thing that the DLA do. I had exactly the same thing and I too cant answer phone and dont like talking to anyone as it was withheld. Just about to send my renewal in !!
  • I hope you get DLA for depression & anxiety. My application was rejected. For some bizarre reason, it appears my consultant hasn't really supported my claim. I'm rather upset about it, but I really haven't the energy to appeal.

It could be something simple that you have missed off the form.

My sons' girlfriend applied for DLA. She received a phone call from them and was nervous about it. However, it was to say she had been awarded DLA (LRM,LRC) but they couldnt read her writing on the form for the Bank Account number. :)

So it could be for something nice!

Remember tho it's not what diagnosis you have but how it affects you, so really it doesn't matter what diagnosis anyone has.

OP I agree to get someone to call for you & hope it's sorted now
