Hello
I need to deposit around USD 1000 in my friend's account in the US.
Can you please let me know the best way of doing this?
Thanks in advance

Do you have a bank account here in the UK?
I send money abroad using our banks Priority Payment system. You will need to know your friends Swift Code, the account number and name the account is in, as well as the banks full address and your friends full address. You will pay around about £20 pounds for doing this. Your friends will then receive it between 1 and 5 days later. Keep a copy of your transaction request when you have done it.0 -
If sending it from your bank account, see if you can do it over the phone or from internet banking.
Halifax charge £19.50 in a branch, and £9.50 over the internet ... a much cheaper way of doing it!0 -
Thanks a lot for the replies.
Yes, I have a UK bank account - it is with Barclays.
I have all the details regarding my frend's bank account number, address, etc..... but do not have the bank's swift code and wont get it from my frend either, because he does not want this money ... but I want to return it.
Any roundabout available?
Thanks

You don't need the bank's SWIFT/BIC code if it's going to the US - it helps, but it's not mandatory. It's only mandatory for payments to the EU.
You'll need as much detail as possible, though - bank address, routing number, etc.
Then ask your Barclays branch to make the payment for you - they'll usually provide you with a form to fill in, which they then send off. Some will fill it in onscreen. Cost is £20 for standard dispatch, £35 for priority. What would William Shatner do?0
