Recorded delivery really is a waste of time!

I posted some forms that had no intrinsic value, but I needed to know that they had been delivered by the deadline, so I sent them recorded delivery.
Two days later I checked the tracking on the RM website and got the following message,
"Your item has reached the delivery office and is out for delivery.
We can confirm that your item left the delivery office this morning and should arrive shortly if it hasn’t been delivered already."
I was a bit hacked off that it had not yet arrived, so I checked again a week later and got the same message, the postman is clearly taking a long time on his round!
Fortunately, the recipient of the forms sent me a confirmation that they had been received the day after I posted them, but according to the RM website they are still in the postman's bag.
I know several posters on here have said that recorded delivery is not definite proof of postage and this certainly seems to be the fact. If I had not received the confirmation from the recipient I would be worried that the forms had been lost in the post or delivered late.

it does take the website quite a while to actually update progress of a item0

After 15 working days you can claim a book of stamps for every recorded item that is received but where no tracking is available online.
Nothing I sent in october 2008 ever showed as delivered when I check online, but I ended up with an awful lot of stamps.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I never knew that Soolin. Thanks for posting this info as I also have quite a few recorded items that have no tracking available online.
How do I go about claiming my stamps please? Do i just email or write to the royal mail with the recorded delivery numbers?
Thankyou!

It cna be time consuming so I wait until I have a batch, although one of the regulars (can't recall who) had a template form.
You need to use the standard Royal mail claim form which looks wrong when you try and complete it, but stick with it. Instead of claiming 'loss' or 'delay' just write on the form that you are claiming for the cost of the 75p recorded service which you did not receive.
I do a form with all my details, and then scan it and complete the buyers details on each, then I send the lot in with the original recorded till slips (I keep copies of those though) and a covering letter explaining what I am claiming for.
I usually get back a very strange letter that basically says that recorded isn't a guaranteed service and they cannot compensate me for it, but for my inconvenience they enclose a book of stamps. The book of 1st class stamps is worth £4.68.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I claimed for a lost recorded delivery item a few weeks back. Filled in the online form and posted it off. After a month I had still heard nothing so decided to ring them up. They informed me that they had sent a book of first class stamps out to me in the middle of April. What a suprise it is lost in the big black post office hole, fortunately they resent it for me and that one did arrive.

Just bumping this as I decided to check my receipts from March today.
Out of 25, 4 just have that they were received at the Post Office I sent them from, 10 have no proof of signature and 11 are delivered and signed for.
When you mention no tracking, Soolin, does that include signature or not? Is it enough for RM to say it was delivered but not to prove it?
Don't want to send a load of forms off unnecessarily :rolleyes:0 -
I've only ever claimed for those ones that never show as delivered.
It might be worth putting a claim in for the 75p on the others as well on the basis you didn't receive the correct service as advertised..I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for clarifying - might actually submit all of them with no signature (one was a special delivery) and see what they say.0
