Capital One and Link Financial Default notice

I have an ongoing issue with Capital One. They have put a default notice on my file even though they were informed that I hadnt personally used the card.
Immediately i was informed of the purchases 3 years ago they were informed and promised to investigate. I completed numerous forms.
I hadnt heard anything from them for ages and then was traced by an agecy chasing the monies. When I phoned Cap One they said they couldnt verify it was me so they wouldnt talk to me?!?!?
I checked my credit file and find I have Cap One default and another one from Link Financial. I have moved a bit in the last few years through work and have never recieved any Defailts notices.
Can any one suggest anything. I have phoned Link but they said they havent any record of a default listed?!??! even thou it clearly there.
I really need to get these removed as im trying to obtain a mortgage and upgrade my bank account
