What about starting a PEMC/Support/Travel Insurance page we could head it more simplistic.....i.e Illness/Travel Insurance, and drop the PEMC thing as some wouldn't understand this.

For e.g………….if someone suffered from Cardiomyopathy.

A useful link is http://www.cardiomyopathy.org/

From this site it is possible that they could share experience of Insurance cover for their holiday, for eg they could well have found for “their particular condition” give age progression/stage of illness etc” that the best premiums were say allclear and the details are http://www.allcleartravel.co.uk/ if it is based on experience we could state why, “talk to real people not machines, competitive premiums, helpful” etc

We could make it clear that these weren’t actual recommendations, but hopefully most of them would be from personal experience.

The obvious way to find PEMC/Travel Insurance is as stated above (IMO), but to some others it may not be, and although you don’t want to do all the work for them, and promote autonomy

It may be that a PEMC/Support/Travel Insurance page may well help lead some in the right direction?

Now it would appear I am no fan of IC’s (allegedly) however apparently it is a necessary evil, and that ill people still have holidays (how dare they), anyway Insurance may well help them sleep well and have a good time and therefore be productive…………….we will discuss claims of PMC/Insurance at another time.

In the main it could be about PEMC/Insurance (as this is were people are needing help) and the Support network should have been highlighted before, but link it, in case it hasn’t.

Anyway you get the general idea, what’s the general opinion?.........

OshayAway……………I don’t want your opinion thanks.

Its a good idea, I think the Mods can start a "Sticky" which stays near the top of the forum and people add to it.

It would be helpful if we explain why you need to declare PMECs, why you need to declare them and that you have to declare them for close family members not travelling etc.

The links to patient organisations would be a good idea to

Like you said you would have to point out your not recommending the Insurers as with Travel Insurance you get good and bad....Axa ahem.

If it helps any MSE members avoid the problems of not declaring a PEMC and getting the right cover for them it would be a benefit. Unfortunately they tend to discover about it after the event and when they stumble on MSE when they have problems.

An explanation of https://www.ehicplus.co.uk (Benefits and drawbacks) could help people with some advice on the EHIC as well as a lot of people do not understand what this provides and does not provide

You need to get the Insurance Mod to put the sticky up for you, there are plenty of people with knowledge on MSE that could contribute to it.

People getting caught out on Travel Insurance is one of my pet subjects, its often caused because consumers do not realise a minor thing like taking aspirin for the heart or having blood pressure needs to be declared as they assume as they are old its a common thing. I often find after I have explained to customers how declaring PEMCs and they have said no I have nothing to declare when you ask do you take aspirins or beta blockers or have high blood pressure etc etc they often are and did not realise to declare it.

Travel Insurance can be a wonderful product when it works as it should do in the event of a claim and there are no PEMCs that the Insurer was not aware of. (The first thing the Insurer looks at when they get a medical, cancellation or curtailment claim is PEMCS)
