As I say this is my nails 3 weeks old so needing to be redone tbh as you can see too much nail growth, but it shows the shine and chip resistance of the shellac

I've had shellac done before and it does last for ages, but pretty expensive at a salon. Do you do your own?
  • Oooo I feel like I walked into a virtual nail bar.

To not smudge before they've dried, I tend to paint then type... just have to be careful of the space bar as it's on the side of your thumb nail! Also if we're going out I'll paint, then MrMRN will help me get into the car and put my seatbelt on for me... by the time we're at our destination they're dry. I've also been known to paint on the train if it's quiet!

But like most people, I just haven't the time to do it most weeks.

Yes I do :) very easy to do and cheaper than the salon, once you've obviously got everything needed :)

Ooh I feel all tempted to have a Shellac done now, a friend of mine does them but not sure how much she charges. I feel a New Year's treat coming on! Sorry for hijacking MRN :D

P.S. - well done for the packed lunches, you have done so well. Are you going to continue past the 16 weeks?

Oh yes. But lucky for you lot I won't be boring you with my Friday celebrations of how many weeks I'm up to!!! I think it's pretty much habit now which was my aim. Although I've had some random concoctions when we run low on food!

I'll be painting my nails before bed this evening...
Out of interest Elantan, how much was the initial outlay for the shellac kit (I'm guessing base coat, colour, top coat and a UV curing lamp? anything else?)

  • While my nails dry (Nails Inc Portobello - if you're into that kinda thing!) I will tell you about my weekend:

My house looked like a bomb site when I got home from work on Friday evening so my challenge was to get back on top of the tidying and the cleaning but, crucially, to deal with what ever I picked up. So if I found a piece of mortgage paperwork I had to fill it out/post it/file it and if I found a Christmas present I had to wrap it. So quite a lot more effort than just tidying and cleaning.

My house is immaculate now! I can see the bottom of my laundry bin. The dinning room table was underneath all that paperwork, ebay and car boot items. I also put the pile of stuff waiting, in the attic and while I was up there, I brought down the Christmas decorations (not to put them up yet but to see if I had any Christmas cards leftover from last year!

I cancelled the scheduled car boot day on account of the weather. It'll have to wait till the Spring now but probably there'll be some rubbish Christmas presents that I can sling into the boxes anyway!

Having done 3 gym classes this weekend my body is feeling that good pain you get after exercise - call me odd but I really like that feeling. Also my PAYG gym membership versus annual membership is looking healthy. 3 months in and I've made over half my money back. Ker-ching.

Batch cooking and baking went well - Jamie's meatballs, beef stew, ginger cake and savoury muffins. The freezer is looking emptier of raw ingredients and fuller of home-made ready meals... and I'm looking forward to a week or so of minimal effort cooking.

:smileyheaMrMRN gets home tomorrow - so along with the house, I got a full beauty overhaul too. I am preened, plucked, shaved, moisturised, filed and now... polished! It's safe to come home MrMRN the illusion that I'm this gorgeous all the time has been restored!!!:kisses2: Well , right after he's signed the mortgage paperwork, birthday cards and letter to the useless bank that I have lined up for him!

Moneywise it was a bit of a spendy weekend but nothing frivolous - fruit and veg from the market (bargain £4.70 for two bags full), used M&S vouchers to pay for topup supermarket shop (just added £1.23 in change), a few Christmas presents, some brown paper to wrap ebay parcels (8m for £1 from poundshop - cheaper than post office). I resisted purchasing nail varnish (wanted a neutral colour but talked myself out of it) and stopped myself buying a pretty swallow scarf from Warehouse (I might drop some hints about it as a Christmas present instead!).

Ebay selling - all 3 items sold £12.78 before fees. I've wrapped them up and will post tomorrow if the 3rd has paid up - if not they can all wait till Tuesday.

Nails inc portabelo is a lovely colour :)

I think it was £15 for top coat £15 base coat £15 each colour £7/8 scrub fresh £2 for the residue remover and lamp ... Well I got it in Sally's in the cheap .. Think I paid £25 for it

I usually pay £10 each for base and top coat anyway ( orly rubberised base and seche vite top coat) and £15/20 for my colour ( o.p.i, nails inc , Leighton Denny , Chanel and for cheaps china glaze £6/7 a bottle)

Sounds like you have had a very busy weekend mrn, I like the way you achieved so much whilst doing the housework, might need to try that one :)

Wonder what your gonna get up to all plucked, preened and polished for hubby coming home ... Enjoy yourselves ;)

Of course you could always get the CND lamp which will cost over £100 etc ... But what I spent was enough to get me started and if you do a friends charge them half the price you pay in a salon and you will not only cover your costs but it'll work out your manicure will be free ... And people we all like free I'm sure :)
