So did you tax it late? When did previous tax disc expired? Have you spoken to DVLA to find out what the penalty relates to?

Are you saying there has been no period where the car was not taxed?
DVLA will hold this information and seem to think you had a period where the car was not taxed (or sorn'd)0 -

If you are unsure of whether it has been untaxed, or why the fine was issued, then ring DVLA. They will not be able to discuss the fine itself (repaying etc) as the case is in hands of debt collector, but they can tell you the period that the fine relates to.
The fines are issued when 2+ months are missed on the tax. And fines have been issued since 2005, although the legislation has been in place since 1998. Intial fine is £40 if paid within 28days then increases to £80.
HTH, any other questions PM me.

xRecently, I received a Debt Recovery Notice from ICIL dated 25 January 2012. They have demanded an "out of court settlement of £80.00", which supposedly relates to a period when the vehicle was allegedly untaxed for 1 month in January 2011. However, I recalled you saying that "the fines are issued when 2+ months are missed on the tax", which obviously does not apply in my case.
Therefore, how would you explain the fact that I have been fined a sum of £80.00, which relates to a period of less than 2+ months, when the vehicle was allegedly untaxed in January 2011?
Also, I remember that I changed my address on 8 August 2010, but forgot to inform the DVLA. Consequently, DVLA must have sent notice to re-license my vehicle, and subsequent notice for payment of the initial fine of £40.00 to my old address, which I obviously did not receive because I forgot to update them in regards to my change of address.
However, would such circumstances still make me liable to pay the increased fine of £80.00, which seems a bit unfair as DVLA didn't actually send notice to re-license my vehicle, and notice to pay the initial fine of £40.00 to my new address?:huh:0 -

Assuming the DVLA sent the notices to your old address then they did inform you, how is it unfair if you did not tell them of your change of address, how are the DVLA to know you have changed address, do you think they are psychic?0
