I'm trying to reclaim bank charges from my First Direct closed account. Do I send my claim to HSBC (parent bank) or First Direct?

I had an account with First Direct and I wrote to them directly and we are now corresponding.
They've accepted that I am in financial hardship but consider their charges to be fair so will not do anything until they're told to by the courts.0
