Back up all your data (including settings) before doing the reformat/reinstall.
Ensure you have installation CDs (and the product codes/serial numbers) for all the other products you need to reinstall.
And finally, make sure you can read the Windows serial number off the sticky label, probably put on the side of the case. Without that you have a dead PC.

You may find it worth going down the "attempted removal of viruses" route first!

Do you not know anyone who has PC technical knowledge, and would be prepared to take it on?

It seems a horrible waste to have to buy a new PC every few years just because it has become riddled with viruses.

Cheaper indeed to read up on how to avoid viruses (as far as possible) by Safe Computing...

Run ESET's Online Antivirus scanner: http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

Accept it's terms of use and install the ActiveX add-on when prompted to do so. It will take a few minutes to initialise and install. Allow it to remove found threats, and scan unwanted applications - this will remove anything it thinks is dodgy.

Do you have a USB stick? I would copy your music and pictures to that if I were you. Then anything else important, like favourites etc. Having backed up your data, find your reinstall disks along with any serial numbers related to them.
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.

    Do what aliEnRIK suggests.
His advice is usually spot on and, more importantly, free.

It might just do the trick. Even if it doesn't, you wont be any worse off than you are now
