BT rates help please.

BT standard rates.

(I know I could check this out quite easily myself), but while being on this site I thought I would post up anyway.;)

We only have BT for the line rental, and please can anyone confirm what the actual monthly rate is for this?

I am not sure if there are is a mistake on the bill, such as being charged for weekend calls where all our calls are with aol with broadband etc.

I have a BT line that costs £11.99 per month and all my call charges are dealt with by AOL Talk Broadband, but BT are the worst extortionists ever, I like to talk on the phone with my mum and a few other people but the prices for phone calls is rediculous, I paid on average £400 per quarter to BT. I have just recently let AOL take over my calls and i'm trying not to use my phone. BT must of had about £1500 in the last 12 months.

I pay this every quarter to BT, just for the line rental as stated and there is a processing fee as well which adds up, they have charged me almost £46, I have not got a clue why as all our calls are with aol, unlimited calls weekend and week with aol.
I have just sent BT an email to question this, it looks like they have added unlimited calls with them as well, and its only my name on the account???

Forgot to say have been with BT for years now and have not changed anything with them.

Hello di3004,

The charges raised on your BT account should only relate to rental charges if your calls are with another provider. However, there are certain types of calls which may not be charged through your calls provider and could end up on the BT network.

You will need to check with them to find out if there are any exclusions to your contract with them. If you need help understanding the charges on your BT account then drop me a PM with your details and I will unravel the mystery of the BT bill for you!

As the question you asked 4 days ago hasn’t yet been answered, I will give you my understanding of BT’s current line rental costs:

At present, basic line rental costs £11.25 per month.
If you want a paper bill, add £1.25 per month
If you want to pay other than by DD, add £1.50 per month

This package is called ‘Unlimited Weekend Plan’.

As you have found, there are many cheaper ways to pay for call costs than through BT. However, unless you have a very good reason for moving line rental away from BT, you will probably find that you keep your options open by sticking to BT for line rental.

OK, so you're now with AOL for your 01/02/03 calls. That may resolve your call costs problem although, if you'd come here earlier, you might have discovered the 5p per 01/02/03 call delights of 18185 and negated the need to change calls provider. BTW, how much do you pay AOL? I assume it's considerably less than the £4.95 BT would charge for anytime UK 01/02/03/0845/0870 calls.

Anyway, don't forget that the 1280 prefix will not work now you're with AOL - so you cannot make any calls via BT to 'qualify' for free Caller Display and/or basic 1571 - and BT will charge you for those services if you use/have them.

£46 for 3 months line rental, £15 ish per month, depending on what you want (paper bill /direct debit) can be reduced to £33.75 (£11.25 per month)....if all your calls are made via AOL and you have caller display, then you are probably paying for caller display as its only free if you make the required number of calls over BT, if you dont make the minimum number of calls over BT I think the caller display fee is £2.50/£2.75 per month

I have been with BT for many years now, but the last 3 years been with aol with all calls unlimited for both weekend and weekday calls.

I have a standard line rental only with BT and then there is a processing fee a £4.50.

This is how this is shown on the Bill:

Rental charges: £41.33
Payment charges: £4.50
Total amount = £45.83

Calling features - 0.00

Calling plans bill and rentals periods are different, this charge for rental up to this bill date, will bring them in line in future.

Looks like you would normally pay £12.50 (line rental/calls with a paper bill) plus £1.50/month bill processing fee, £42 per quarter, the small variation this billing period is due to the billing date for the calling plan (even though you dont use it) and line rental dates being aligned.
Dont know why you dont sign up for a paperless bill after all if your calls are made thru AOL then presumeably your BT bill shows nothing
but the line rental charge, and your call charges are on a AOL bill, you can change your BT bill to paperless on-line

As far as it goes, your bill looks (approximately) correct. There is just one discrepancy – a 33 pence difference between the total you quoted at the top (£45.83) and the total you quoted at the bottom (£45.50).

Your line rental charges are made up of three components, covering just over 6 months (1 Feb to 7 Aug):

1/2 to 31/3: £23.01
1/4 to 7/5: £15.32
8/5 to 7/8: £37.50

totalling £75.83

and then you have got a refund of £34.50 for 1 Feb to 30 Apr (presumably paid on a previous bill).

The payment charge is avoidable if you sign up for payment by DD. You can also save £1.25 per month if you opt for paper-less billing.

With line rental from BT, you have a completely open choice of call carriers, and it may well be that you can find a cheaper carrier for weekday and evening calls than AOL. Would you like to give some idea of your called destinations, how often and for how long?
