I'd wager no-one can get a Fox For £4880 ish. The only ones available in the UK are those with 'extras'. I got a dealer to trawl the UK for one yesterday (the day that VW agreed formally to the scheme) and they could find me a basic Fox but it came with alloys, met paint and a colour pack. Grand total of £1005 in extras. At this level, you might as well find a few more hundred squid and go for a new Polo. I asked about delivery for a Fox without extras (a factory order) and the dealer acknowledged that this would be unlikely in the time stipulated by the scheme. So, you can order one but be prepared to pay full whack.
Nice headline though, under £5k for a VW. I'd have bought one if they'd been any available.

The question has to be "why?"

Buy second hand rather than such rubbish 'vehicles'.

    Hyundai scrappage prices:

    i10 is £4995, i20 is £5995
  • A Citroen C1 1.0i 68hp VT 3dr will cost £5945 OTR if an eligable car is exchanged. These are a good buy as they are the 2nd best depreciator according to CAP, so resale values are good when you choose to sell. Expect circa £3000 p/x for a 3yr old average miles good example.

Because they are not rubbish vehicles at all.

They are not suitable for doing 100 miles a day of motorway driving; they would all be fairly tiring. But they are perfect for mostly city trips and the bi annual holiday and odd weekends away, or for a second car in the household.

For example, I own a Matiz and I love it. Cheap insurance, cheap parts, fantastic fuel consumption, steering so light it's a breeze in the tightest of spaces, parks in a teeny space and has been extremely reliable. My commute is 3 miles a day. When I hop onto the motorway, I stick to 65 and don't do 70 because although the car will do it, with a 900cc engine I find she doesn't' have the acceleration zoom in case of a problem. Motorways are not an issue because they are flat. The only downside of the car is that I am in 2nd gear going up a steep hill. I shall keep it until it reaches the end of its natural life.

What do I need a 5k second hand fiesta for, apart from 'to depreciate'?
