Yeah but they compete with argos where the same tv we want is 150 quid cheaper. Richer sounds, much smaller retailer and they have the tv just as cheap too. But, Argos have the different model number but same tv and Richer sounds isn't one of the approved DSG price match companies.
Tried PC World? They pricematch any retailer within 30 miles, and you can use DSGi insurance replacement cards in there too.

I wouldn't trust Currys any more.......around a year ago I was shopping around for my kitchen appliances. I found the ones I wanted, tapped them into Google, and found them at a good price from a small stockist in Mansfield, Notts..... I thought i'd give Currys' magnificent PRICE MATCH a go.....They sold every single one of the appliances I had selected, but were almost DOUBLE THE PRICE!! On presenting my internet prices to the store manager, his response was to shrug his shoulders and tell me the price match only applied to the same products from Comet and Argos (which, coincidentally, were on the same retail park...).

I can understand they will not apply the price match to goods found on the internet (overheads purposes etc etc), but almost double the price?!?!? I'm taking an educated guess that Currys will have cheaper buying prices than Joe Bloggs's Cooker Shop in Mansfield, so why will they not bother to compete with them?

In response to the Serial Number change...In the flooring retail trade they do almost exact the same trick.

Some of the multiples offer some sort of price match guarantee..there is even one chain of flooring retailers up in the north east who claim to give you £500 if you find the same product cheaper elsewhere.....Yeah right.....

All they do is change the names of the product......When you find exactly the same carpet and underlay cheaper in another shop, the different product name is their handy GET OUT CLAUSE!!!

    Hi,

I had an idea the stores were working together but had it confirmed recently by a Curry's salesman.

You see I've been trying to price match as I have some insurance vouchers for Curry's and can find the TV's elsewhere for a lot cheaper but obviously Curry's don't pricematch those stores. They only match four stores.

Now, is it me or does anyone else find it strange that I can find the exact same television in comet or argos BUT the model number is a digit or two different. So one TV in curry's is model number 5010 and in comet it is 5020. Same spec, same design, same tv only the sticker on the back is one digit different.

My wife didn't believe me when I mentioned it but then the store assistant backed me up and said that when the DSG group order they tell them what they want and the model number. I take it this is what the other stores do too, effectively working together to prevent the price match guarantee.

I hates it, wish I had vouchers to another company.

Try this it worked for my son and his Toshiba 42" TV. This was a while ago but same princaple applies. He went to Curry's and saw the TV, called the assistant and confirmed the price at £1200.00 instore so he then asked do you do a price match to which he was told "yes we do sir" smiling to himself he said "well i have seen this TV for £750.00 the assistant adviced him he would have to check it out and asked where he had seen it to which he said (with a smile) Curry's online and he had it for £750.00 and a discount on a surround sound system. :rotfl:

But surely if you'd been given vouchers for one of the cheaper stores, then you would have been given a lot smaller value?? i.e £100 or so less, so effectively you'd be in the same position?

Curry's have some very good prices often internet beating prices around bank holiday's usually...so might be worth waiting till the next one to see if your vouchers go further?

i understand where your coming from, i recently got vouchers to replace my laptop. i also thought i'd try and be a savy buyer and check prices around on the laptop i wanted, but as they would only honour affiliated companies and since they all have the same price it was kind of hard to haggle

so the best thing i would advise is find the tv you want they reserve it online going through a cashback site first that way at least you can get a 1-2% discount. and if your lucky maybe online they'll have a promo for their own store which if you print off and show them they might honour.

funny thing when i was at the checkout they offered me a £10 discount only if i took the extended warranty. i kindly declined as i found out that you can buy one anytime within the first year, so you might as well wait till near the end of your original manufacturers warranty to take one out (well that is if you ever want to spend a fortune on one :rotfl:)

The price match should not just be four stores, should be any local retail store.

Secondly, if you got your vouchers from Whateverhappens and it's not enough for a like-for-like replacement, ask the store to contact WEH...they can often get the voucher value raised.

Funny thing is I'd always take the warranty in that situation, as you can cancel it within the first either 30 or 45 days (I forget) but they normally discount the main product so you keep the discount :money:.....in fact you can usually haggle with warranty even more.

Why bother with a price match. If it is cheaper elsewhere and they are being awkward with a price match, I just buy it from the cheaper store.
    No big deal.

I recently bought a washing machine from Comet having priced it as the cheapest, and then went in twice within the 14 day price match period to claim a partial refund under the price match policy, as they themselves had reduced the price twice since I bought it - saved me £50!
