renewal quotes

Can anyone explain to me why I can easily get just under £83 off my buildings & contents insurance quote from my current company when I phone and tell them I've found a dozen companies cheaper. I did the comparison stuff from this web site (using my renewal to make sure I was getting 'like for like'), then phoned my current company. The operator asked what the cheapest quote was (over £100 less than my renewal) and without hesitation reduced the quote by nearly (£83). I took the revised quote. Why don't companies just give you a better quote in the first place? Are they hoping the customer will be too lazy to compare prices and just pay what's asked?

    Yes definately!!

We or rather I, shop around for all our insurances every year and save money by swapping co's because loyalty rarely gets you anywhere.

Recently I found out my parents home and contents renewal was going to be over £700  I spent half an hour using comparison sites and got them a like for like policy for less than £300. When Dad phoned the co to tell him he wasn't renewing and told them why they immediately came back with a price of £333.

Personally in your shoes I wouldn't have taken the revised quote unless it matched or bettered the best price you had got from the comparison sites.
I'd have changed co's and saved even more money but each to their own :D

I've just been through the whole home insurance renewal process. Spent around an hour online using the big price comparison companies you see advertised on tv, and during that time i had 5 phone calls, all obviously initiated by the fact that i have given my phone number over and they new i was looking for insurance right then!! Very annoying! Didn't give any of them the time of day!
