I read somewhere (maybe on OSMS) that getting your fruit and veg from farm shops or an organic fruit and veg delivery can work out cheaper/better value.
Does anyone know if there are such things in or around Central Scotland. I truly am smack bang in the centre so could go Edinburgh/Glasgow/Perth directions???
TIA

We get a weekly delivery of fruit & veg
they also deliver eggs, milk and bread
I believe that there is a new farm shop which sells meat and other organic produce.
I don't think it's cheap but it's fresh and tasty and conveniently delivered!!0 -

I've been using www.damhead.co.uk for the past few months. I use the box (or actually bag) scheme to get fruit and veg delivered weekly/fortnightly and have been very pleased with them.
The are based outside Edinburgh but deliver to me in Glasgow.0 -

This looks really nice, but I couldn't find anything on the website to say where it is or how to find it?0 -

The meat is considerably dearer than a regular butchers or supermarket but well worth buying a little elss and gettign the marvelous full flavour without injected, imbibed and digested junk in the flesh: chickens second to none in flavour.
The shop is well stocked with fruit veg, dairy and most any other grocery products you might need. See https://www.jamesfieldfarm.co.uk and you can get a catalogue sent out: jamesfieldfarm@btconnect.com Tel: 01738 850498 F: 01738 850741
Handily enough, I have the order form in front of me.
Their produce really is fantastic value in both the shop and in their organic restaurant: prices quite reasonable I thought and I'm not a wealthy bird: portions hearty.
Jamesfield do the farmers' markets too.0 -

Taste was okay though.
I tried Bellfield Organic Nurseries, out by Strathmiglo, but, although their produce was tasty, they delivered only once a week and much of the fruit and veg was going rotten by the end of the week so wasted. Not really favourably impressed there: nice folk though.
I bought organic tomatoes on the vine in Jamesfield and they were still in good shape almost 2 weeks later. The tomaotes had a thicker, tougher skin than the supermarket ones but this was only because their growth wasn't forced and teh flavour......OOOOOOH! I'm droolly dribbling.
Go for Jamesfield. Another thing about them is that they will try to get anything you ask them to. I make a lot of sweeties and the only ingredient I can't get organic for tehm is the sweetened condensed milk.
Sadly, Nestle/Carnation/Fussells (all amalgamated now) appear to monopolise the market in that area. It was the only one I could find for sale in Britain. I found one organic equivalent on the net but it's in the US and comes from cows farmed in India. Jamesfield are trying to get it in stock for me.
Ye jist cannae maak a guid taiblet wae-oot sweetened condensed milk.0
