ICICI won't let me go!

I opened a ICICI card about 2 1/2 years ago, used it for a 0% fee free balance transfer. I paid the debt off and it's had a £0.00 balance on it for about 18 months.
About 8 months ago I called them and asked them to close my account as I wasn't using it anymore and had no need of the card in the future. They said no problem, we'll do that for you right now, you can cut up your card, there's nothing more you need to do blah blah blah.
Since then I have continued to get monthly £0 statements which means that the account isn't, in fact, closed. I have now called them 4 times, written to the PO box address they print on the back of their envelopes and written to an actual branch address asking them to close my account. All in vain.
I find it very disturbing that the continue to ignore my requests, and I don't know what more I can do! Any suggestions on how I can get them to close my account so I can move on with my life?!
