Was folling an F reg bus today and was wondering what sort of mileage these things have on them.

I know it's not really money saving, but I just wondered...

easily into the millions. it might be hard to get an accurate mileage as i doubt the odometer would have enough space to fit all the numbers on it,so it could have been round the clock a few times.and i doubt the original drivers or owners still drive or own them so they might not be able to look up old service records.

regardless though they will be sky high.

you would be surprized,a large industrial diesel engine always running and never over reving and always well serviced could do 1 million miles easy with little need for repairs.
i remember a haulage company i used to use had a scania lorry that had 750,000 miles on original engine and still going strong.

I've seen a few buses which have had extra badges stuck on the back to show they've had engine replacements. I've seen ones round here which have got the Mercedes logo stuck on their noses but I don't think they're Mercedes buses. The replacement engines probably just came with a free badge...

I saw an old red Northumbria Buses bus the other week in my town. I don't think it was in service though. God knows where it's been as the firm was taken over by Arriva in the 90s and the buses of the time were all painted the Arriva Green/cream colours! I thought I was seeing things! :p

Or the boss has a sense of humour? In Russia in the 90s many people stuck fake Merc badges to their clapped-out Ladas...
