Hi

following advice from this forum I now back up my google mail via imap with microsoft outlook...so when I can't get onto Google mail- happened twice now- I am not lost.

A new problem today is for the first time Emails in my sent box- over 6 hrs old have still not been recieved. Previously used address etc but for some reason very slow today.

What I wanted is some advice- to save time and money chasing up if emails have actually got to there destination. ( have spent some time ringing and resending emails from today since this evening they are getting to the recepient immediately).

I thought I could always sign off with a message asking for ackowledgemt of receipt but I thought could I not set google up so it would notify me via email once someone opens my email? I have looked up this function but cant find it.....any ideas??

thanks

There is no notification function in gmail as far as I know.

If you send an email from gmail and recipient has not received the email - then it might be junk email filtering on the recipient side. Try sending to other accounts, yahoo, msn etc.

the only thing that ever worried me about gmail is the sheer size of it.
heavy traffic or a ddos attack could easily halt service for a while.

Read reciepts are application specific theres nothing in the normal email standard to support it, additionaly the recipient can disable sending of read reciepts anyway.
