broken electricity meter

I am with EDF for my electricity i have a meter which is topped up by key.
The meter broke about 7 months ago. I called EDF straight away and said my credit was not going onto the machine and they said They would come out and repair it when I got to 50p or less showing on the meter.
It has now been stook on £6 for the last 7 months. every time i call them I get told they will not come out until it reaches 50p or my electricity cuts out.
What do i do. I am sick of it costing me to call them as I have a mobile phone only. why should i chase them all the time when they will not listen when i say its stook.
has anyone else come across this problem and since i had the meter fitted due to an outstanding amount of over £500 due to them not reading the meter and estimating it in the first place. what is going to happen when they eventually sort it out. how will they sort out what ive used?

you really shouldnt let it go for 7 months. you could end up owing them a small fortune. Ring them one more time and tell them it's stopped supplying you electricity. They'll have to send out an engineer to check the meter.

That should get it fixed for you.

Be careful of claiming you are off supply because they may charge you if they turn up and you are on supply. I would write to them stating the problem and advising them that you have telephoned numerous times (ideally stating dates/times) but that each time you have been told they will do nothing unit it get to 50p thereby putting the onus on the fact that you have reported it but they have failed to act. Once you have done this wait back and see what happens. In the mean time I would be putting away an amount of money each week to cover what you haven't been putting in the meter.

On your mtr along with the display which displays your £6 credit does it have any writing on it such as KEY or RESET ont it??
  • Hi,

even though it's stuck on £6, it may still be recording usage, there's usually a button to push to take you through the display, so be careful with usage.
