default notice

Hope someone can help me at my witts end here had a few money problems lately and ingnored some of the less important debts ( made less repayments not stopped paying) and made sure important ones were paid, i had a capitalone card on which i got behind and recieved a letter saying unless i paid £140 a default notice would be registered against me, i immediately did £150 on the 1st may but today i have recieved a letter from capitalone saying my account has now been closed and a default has been registered against me and my debt passed on to a 2nd party! What can i do about this i immediatley responded to there letter have checked my online banking and the payment was made but yet they still defaulted me! Im hoping to remorgage next month due to my fixed rate running out but now with this default i stand no chance! Can i take this matter furthur and get this default removed i serious need of help here folks, contacted capitalone by phone but they refused to discuss the account as it is no longer in there hands!
